5 Items I’m No Longer Buying In 2020. It’s a new year which means new goals. One of my goals is to spend less money. Or at least spend less on certain things so I can spend more on luxury items (haha). One way to spend less money is to cut out things altogether, cut back on certain items, or find hacks to save money. I’m using all 3 of these ways to spend less.

Daily Starbucks Trips. Ok guys, why do I do this to myself? There is a Starbucks right by my house and right by my work. It’s too easy. My addiction is real and all it’s doing is killing my bank account and my waist line. Telling myself to never go to Starbucks again will just result in me failing. I enjoy Starbucks but need to see it more as a treat rather than a necessity. I’m no longer buying daily Starbucks drinks in 2020 and this is how I’m going to do it…
- Limit myself to Starbucks twice a week. It can be a reward on Fridays and the weekend. It will also keep me excited about going.
- I make coffee every morning as it is and then end up at Starbucks for my second coffee hit. What I’m going to do is take a second cup of coffee to go that I make at home. I have this amazing cold brew machine and my trusty nespresso that is the bomb.
- I can easily mimic Starbucks at home with my favorite syrups that give it that expensive coffee taste.

Plane Tickets. I’m no longer spending money on plane tickets in 2020. I still plan on traveling. How am I going to do that? Basically I have the golden ticket where I purchase a plane ticket and my husband flies for free. YES, for FREE. How??!! Glad you asked.
- I have the companion pass from Southwest. Basically, anytime I book a plane ticket on Southwest he flies with me for free to the same destination.
- I first got into the companion pass when when Southwest was offering a promotion for the companion pass for free for one year with a credit card sign up. After that, you have to accumulate points to maintain it. Let me tell you, it’s worth it. We accumulated enough points to get it for a second year. It seriously saves me SO. MUCH. MONEY.
- There is not any other credit card that will give you this kind of perks. They usually do the free companion pass option once a year (January or February) so make sure to look out for it (sign up here). If they don’t give you the companion pass as a sign up perk they will give you TONS of free points which means free plane tickets!
- I’ve racked up so many points with Southwest that I use points to fly for free and then use the companion pass to book my husband so we pay nothing! Well, you have to pay $11.95 for the 9/11 taxes. But that’s it!

I cancelled my gym membership. Oh yes, girl. I’m still going to get in shape though! I really don’t need to spend extra money at the gym when there are so many resources at my fingertips. To start, my building has a clubhouse with a gym that has everything I need. It’s perfect for cardio sessions and they even offer free classes. I also use the sweat app when I want to exercise at home. If you really don’t want to pay for the sweat app you can look up work out routines on youtube for free!
Eating Out (At Lunch). Your girl has been improving her cooking skills! With that said, hello leftovers. Plus, I need an excuse to use these super cute food containers I got for Christmas! (Btw, I got so much good stuff for Christmas!) How stinkin cute?! I tend to get lazy and use UberEats way too much when I’m at work. I want to limit that to emergencies and focus on bringing my own lunch. Plus, it’s usually healthier!
Luxury Brand New. Ok, out with the new and in with the old! HAHA, yes new backwards motto. I’m using 2020 to focus on sustainable fashion and shopping more at Fashionphile and Therealreal. It saves me money AND helps the environment! I love luxury goods and this is a great way to save money. I will probably still by some items brand new but I’m going to focus more on pre-owned.
What are YOU saving money on in 2020? Would love to know! Check out more posts here.
xoxo,
Christina
