How to afford designer clothes, when you spend all your money on other things (like handbags and shoes!) but where there’s a will there’s a way!
I’m the first to admit that my extra funds mostly go to a new bag or pair of designer shoes. Which, by the way, Nordstrom is currently having their double points event and I’m going to order these gorgeous shoes for Spring & Summer! I can’t wait because I know I will wear them all the time!

How to Afford Designer Clothes
If you have ever owned a designer clothing item you know the value. The structure, material, and fit far exceeds that of fast fashion. There have been times where the quality may not be up to par, but for the most part I notice a big difference between a well made item and a cheaper alternative.
I recently have become obsessed with brands like Ulla Johnson and Loveshackfancy (best review ever on their famous dress) and have always loved Self Portrait for a special occasion. But how can I afford these brands along with all of my Louis Vuitton handbags and Gucci shoes? Well, I have 5 tips that I use all the time that are EASY and that I am going to share with you!
5 Easy Ways: How to Afford Designer Clothes
Staples vs Trends
Spend your money wisely! Just like I recommend with handbags. It’s nice to buy a trendy handbag once in awhile, but the majority of your collection should be functional with classic pieces. Same goes for designer clothes. Purchase trendy pieces from fast fashion and splurge on staples with designer clothes. Focus on denim, blazers, a few dresses, a trench coat.
Designer Sales
The best part about designer clothes is they almost ALWAYS go on sale! I recommend to make a “wishlist” at your favorite department store. Check your wishlist weekly to see if things go on sale. Also, sign up for newsletters so you will be the first to be notified when a sale is happening! Listed below are some of my favorite stores where I buy designer clothing on sale!
Rent the Runway
Rent the runway is the best! They have thousands of designer goods ready at your fingertips for rental. It’s such a great place for a few reasons. If you want to try out a designer but don’t want to purchase the item, kind of like taking a test drive. Perfect for events where you know you will only wear the look one time. Hello, weddings! I bet most people use this service for wedding season! I use it all the time and love it!

Credit Card Points
Do you have the Nordstrom credit card? Girl, let me tell you. This is hands down the best credit card for shopaholics. Nordstrom just gave it a face lift and is calling it Nordy Club. Basically you get 3 points for every dollar at Nordstrom, 2 points for dining, entertainment and travel, and 1 point for everything else! I just used $400 in credit card points to go towards a new pair of Gucci shoes. Winning!
Consignment
Consignment is a fantastic way to get authentic designer items for a fraction of the price. I love to shop online at this store for designer clothes and shoes. Looking for handbags? This is the store with the best handbag inventory. Everything is authentic but you pay nowhere near retail!
