Deciding what to save vs splurge is an important aspect of creating a wardrobe you love. It can be overwhelming to have a closet full of beautiful clothes but nothing to wear (isn’t that the worst?!). If you need tips on how to fix that problem you can find a helpful post here.
Fashion has trends and it’s wise to save money on pieces that are “in” one season and out the next. However, that doesn’t mean to bargain shop for every item in your wardrobe. Certain items (which we will get to later) are really worth the investment and that’s ideally when you should spend your money.
When to save
Tops
I like to buy statement (or trendy) tops. Sometimes I will buy designer tops when they are on sale. I don’t like to wear the same tops over and over again (unless it’s a staple cami) and this is a good place to save. I like to keep my tops less than $100, or less than $200 if it’s designer and on sale.
This flirty top by Bardot makes a great piece to transition from Winter to Spring. Perfect for a night out and at under $100 it doesn’t have to be in your wardrobe forever. Shop now.
Sweaters
Living in Florida, I only use sweaters a few times a year but I love wearing them. They are so cozy and I wear them around my house. Free People always makes great sweaters and I always find great options at ASOS. I like to save on sweaters because every year there’s always new ones that I want. I like to keep sweaters under $100.
The feminine colors of this sweater are so pretty. I love that its cropped so perfect to pair with high waisted jeans or shorts. Shop now.
Jumpsuits/Rompers
Jumpsuits are seasonal and there’s a lot of really great affordable options. A lot of rompers have prints that will become repetitive over time, therefore it’s best to save.
Obsessed with the back of this jumpsuit! It makes for a great going out look and because the price is so great it’s ok if you only wear it once! Shop now.
Where to splurge
Handbags
A nice designer handbag can last you a lifetime. I’m a big believer in spending your money on designer items like handbags. They give a great return on investment (if you ever want to sell them) and they make any outfit look polished. It’s really easy to save thousands on handbags like Louis Vuitton, you just have to know the tricks! Listing a few handbags that are totally worth the investment below!
Shoes
A good pair of shoes can totally transform your life. Not only do a well fitted pair improve posture and bone health but they make you feel like a million bucks. Shoes are something I never comprise. I spend hard-earned money on shoes because they hold up over time, look classy, and make me feel like a woman. Listing some of my favorites below.
Dresses
Every season I splurge on a dress (or two, or three) and it’s one of my favorite clothing pieces. This is the one I bought this year for the Holidays. Dresses are so easy to wear and I just love how feminine and beautiful they make me feel. Some brands that I always have my eye on are Self Portrait, Ulla Johnson, and Loveshackfancy. I always scoop them up when there’s a good sale but also splurge on full price. Listing some of my current favorites and wishlist dresses.
Jeans
A good pair of jeans can go a long way. Jeans are timeless and can be worn all year round. My favorite denim brands are Frame and DL1961. A designer jean makes an outfit look expensive. I would rather invest in a few amazing pairs of jeans that last years rather than replace mid-price jeans each season. A few that fit really well are listed below.
