Why a midi dress works year round
As you sit in your cozy room with your cup of tea and the snow falls outside you may have clicked on this post thinking “yeah right, dresses are for Summer!” The only outfit you plan on wearing outside is a parka on top of layers of sweaters and long johns. Take a moment to hear me out. Living in Miami, I may not be relatable but I do have a solid point to make about how you can work your midi dress (or any dress, really) into your wardrobe year round.
I have been on this kick lately where I have been purging my closet (to fit new clothes, obviously). With January around the corner and #newgoals #newyear looming on my mind I have some fashion goals. Yes, I said fashion goals (I like to break up my goals such as “career goals”, “fashion goals”, “wife goals”, compartmentalizing makes me feel good). In 2019, I want to buy less but spend on quality. I’m over buying tons of fast fashion and wearing something one time. My blog focuses on a lot of luxury handbags and shoes so I want to add more designer clothing to my list. I’m not talking about haute couture (like Oscar de la renta gowns, I wish.) but contemporary designers like Rebecca Taylor, Ulla Johnson, Alice & Olivia. Their clothes are more expensive but they are higher quality and they can last a lifetime.
Here’s the point…
Ok, let’s get back to my point. Why a midi dress works year round. If you splurge on a dress you truly love (maybe from Rebcca Taylor or a designer that cost a pretty penny) you are going to want to wear it every chance you get. That’s the art of quality pieces: you make them work all year long. A midi dress doesn’t just have to be paired with wedges. Midi dresses look amazing with booties or over the knee boots. Add a bomber jacket if you live in Seattle, or a long trench and a beanie in Michigan. Let’s be honest, it’s going to be super warm with artificial heat when you step into the restaurant for dinner. Ugh, nothing is worse than artificial heat (except maybe the humidity in Miami).
The midi dress is all the rage. I’ve seen these dresses everywhere from Nordstrom to Shopbop. I will link some of my favorites below. I have been wearing mine non-stop. The midi dress is so easy because you throw it on and it doesn’t need to be styled. I find jeans and tops much more complicated than a dress. The western style of clothing is really on trend right now (perfect if you live in Nashville or Austin, because hello! that’s your everyday style). To get the perfect western style pair your midi dress with cowboy boots and a hat- maybe add a belt too.
You don’t have to move to the Tropics
If you buy a beautiful midi dress (because the length MAY just give you a bit of extra warmth) it can really be styled for all seasons. Wedges for Spring. Hats and booties for Fall. Add jackets and wool hats for Winter. Sandals and sunglasses with the midi dress for Summer. I am here to give you permission to buy that beautiful midi dress you have been eying because it’s an investment piece. You now know the style secrets to get full use out of the midi dress, and you don’t have to move to the tropics to do so!
