How to mix high and low fashion- something I love to do. High-end items are something I have always admired but couldn’t always afford. I purchased my first Louis Vuitton bag when I graduated from college and started my first real job. The handbag I chose was the Louis Vuitton speedy 25 and I bought it to commensurate all of my hard work. That bag is still in my collection!
My addiction to shoes started as a child but I worked my way from Payless to Target and from Target to Dolce Vita and then to Valentino and Gucci. It’s a process and it takes time, savings, and will power. Where there’s a will there’s a way, if you want it bad enough it will happen.
This brings me to how to mix high and low fashion. High fashion can be any item but I believe that money is better spent on accessories. Clothing styles come and go and that’s where I like to save my money.
How to mix high and low fashion
The first step is to figure out what your heart desires. Are you a handbag girl? A shoe lady? Maybe a jean hoarder?! Ultimately, figure out what you love and then make that your investment piece. From there, the rest you can find deals on so that your money is invested in the items you love.
When shopping to save money on items, I like to purchase from stores that have cute clothes but that have brands that I can resell. A really great place to sell old clothes is thredup and they have specific brands they will take. Furthermore, I try to avoid high street fashion (ie Forever 21) and shop from stores that are relatively cheap but also create high quality items that won’t break after one or two wears.
High fashion must-haves
Here are some items that I recommend splurging for- they are timeless and worth the investment due to cost per wear.
Low fashion stores to shop
My trick with “low-fashion”- avoid cheap stores like Forever 21 and find unique stores that offer great price points with high quality clothing. These are some of my favorite stores to find on-trend clothing without breaking the bank.
- ASOS
- Revolve
- Bloomingdales (trust me, they have insane sales)
- Goodnight Macaroon
- Chicwish
- Nordstrom Rack
