What to do in Chicago
I recently traveled to Chicago for my birthday in the Spring. I have been to Chicago a handful of times and can easily say it’s one of my favorite cities. There is so much good food, fun events, and fashion to be worn.
My favorite place to stay in Chicago is the Michigan Ave area. All the hotels on the strip are walking distance to great food, trendy shops, luxury boutiques, & fun events. I stayed at The Peninsula Hotel and had a fabulous 5-star experience. I wanted to treat myself to a beautiful hotel because it was my birthday!
What I wore in Chicago
This is one of my most-asked about jackets! It was quite cold in Chicago (even in April) so I was happy to play dress-up and rock this amazing star jacket. It’s currently on sale for the next week for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If you want to see everything that I tried on and bought then check out my post here.
This was my #airportfashion because I like to be cute and comfy. My purple sweater is soft, furry, and the best to travel with. I love the pop of color. Chanel espadrilles are some of my favorite travel shoes because they are comfortable but still fashionable. My jeans are classic (I love to invest in great jeans because they last for years) and I bought them at Shopbop which has the best inventory!
Ok, let’s take a moment to admire my shoes. If you read my birthday post then you know that I treated myself to a pair of pink glitter Louboutins. The iriza is my favorite style from Loubotin, it’s decently comfortable (I mean really, Louboutin and comfort shouldn’t be used in the same sentence) and I love the side cut-out.
Chicago in the spring requires a jacket like this one. I recommend bringing light sweaters or cardigans and one coat (just in case, because the weather can be unpredictable). I also brought a pair of heels, boots, and comfortable espadrilles.
What to eat in Chicago: Do it for the ‘gram #chicagoeats
My husband and I had breakfast at Pierrot gourmet which is a European style cafe attached to the Peninsula Hotel. We both agreed that it was one of the best breakfast’s we have eaten! I’m a sucker for a flavored latte and this one was an almond chocolate that paired fantastic with my chocolate croissant. Finally, I added a hearty oatmeal with berries to balance my treats lol.
Bombobar. Oh my heavens! First of all, eating ice cream in cooler weather is a dream for pictures. I am so use to it melting in 5 seconds in Miami. The second picture shows a hot chocolate so it’s great that they have those too. We had to uber to bombobar because it’s located in the west loop which seemed like a young, trendy area.
3 arts cafe. We waited three hours to get a table! We put our name on the list and walked a few blocks to have a cocktail at the signature room on the 95th floor at the John Hancock center (highly recommend! Amazing atmosphere). So 3 arts cafe is inside a restoration hardware and it’s a beautiful neighborhood with stunning brownstone townhouses. The chandeliers were perfect and feel like this would be such a cool venue for a wedding or rehearsal dinner. I got the truffle grilled cheese with french fries and a glass of sparkling rose. Overall, I was one happy birthday girl.
Sunday brunch at The Peninsula. This is the most decadent brunch. My husband was so happy because he got to eat his heart out. They had everything you could imagine from waffles, to over-the-top fruit platters, pasta salads and sushi. My favorite was the dessert section. The desserts were so decadent and delightful. Finally, we headed home and I was able to sleep off my food coma on the plane.
Ultimately, I absolutely adore Chicago and as a result am heading there again in August! If you would like to read more travel posts check them out here.

Christina
